I have worked for Wal Mart as an in Lawn & Garden and now work in and I really like working there. However, I do not intend for this to be my 'career' so I think that may have a big influence on it. I am a student and work there. They have treated me very fairly and for me, Wal-Mart has been a great place to work at. I really loved my co-workers and even though the management is a little hard to work with sometimes, if you treat them with respect and do you job well, then you should have no problem. Best advice I can give to new employees: work hard, be extra friendly to co-workers and management, and DONT GOSSIP because that will get you in a lot of trouble. I have been in a management position at one of my other jobs, and i worked hard for my people. Thus, out of respect they worked hard for me. Yet, i find myself at Walmart where it's not the same. According to my management, they are told to make us work and not work themselves.

I understand this military style thinking, but we are not putting our lives on the line to protect our country. We are out there saling low end products to people. I think the job itself is great, but the management makes the job difficult some days.When it comes to the hours and pay: I started off making 7.45 and hour at 40 hours a week. I now make 8.25 an hour but i only get 12 to 25 hours per week.

If you do the math, it doesn't add up. The schedules tend to flux like a heart beat. Three weeks, you will get 12 hours per week. While the next two weeks, you acquire 25-32 hours per week.

Also, the hours on conflicting. This week, Thursday, i work 2-11pm, then on Friday i work 7-4pm. I live an hour away. This would be perfect for someone that lived closer, but i live far away. I informed the management using the open door policy, but as you can see, nothing has changed this past year.

Thus, Walmart scheduling of hours is a little messed up.The job itself is a great job. The customers can be fun to work with, and 'sometimes' the management can be fun to work with too. If you are not willing to apply yourself and stand up against abuse, you can't move in this company.

Even our store manager lost her job after working for the company for 17 years.

I was a support manager for 2yrs than became a also than i was force to step down after the new shift in management in my old store. They said and i quote them i am to pro- meaning i am for the workers and they do not want that as a quality for the management team any more. And i had nothing to say i was just baffled they had just told me this. And now it was not all ways like this, they are trying to make everyone stay late and cut them but and this is a big but there was a huge issues about 3 to 4yrs ago to were they were making people working off the clock or cutting the hours that the crew has worked and that is agents the and there was a estimated 3.2 million dollars sent to the people that was forced to work off the clock or hours was cut do to overtime. I my self received 800 bucks because of all the overtime that was cut off my upper management when i was a support manager. And the store that i am currently at they are making us stay late and cutting are time scheduling us extra days during the first of the month and holiday and when we have visitors, even if you are a single parent and or going to school they are still making us do this and than will cut us towards the end of the week.

I went from to part time which up here were i live is 32hr for full time but i am working any wares from 34-38hrs a week and i am still getting part time benifets. The company its self is good to work for its the management team that is the biggest issue. What I can't handle, and nor should anyone else for that matter, is management constantly stepping over employees. So obviously you haven't the faintest idea what you are talking about. Wal-Mart sucks, especially their attendance policy. 3 sick days every six months, thats all you get. Have any more than that and you are fired.

Well I apologize for being human and getting sick, my bad. So before you judge people that bad-mouth Wal-Mart (and they do for a good reason) take into account that maybe all of what they are saying is the truth, and therefore all of us have every reason to complain. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. I have only worked at Walmart for over a month. I worked that when I was 18 in 2003 and it was better than it is now, for sure.Not only do you get junky pay (8.25/) but you only get one raise a year.

Your first a year after you've been there. The highest amount they give is 60 cents, but they think EVERYONE gets improvement so I hear the norm is 40 cents. Not only that but they start almost everyone at part time.

Unless you work over night- I hear they make more, like a dollar or something. For part time employees you can get the junky when you've been there for a year. For 6 months. No merit raises, no 90 day raise.And they don't care if you need time off. A woman who had a hard pregnancy had to take time off, she still got in trouble and when she came back she got bumped down from 12.50 to 7.65. Amazing isn't it?Most of the management are on a power trip.

I can only assume that they did not accomplish much in life and this is their big 'time'. It's really sad.I mentioned to a friendly CSM when we were talking that I was homeless. She'd asked about my living situation. She replied, 'You aren't the only one, there's so many other people here at Walmart who told me the same thing.' You can not live on the pay. And since they give 30 hours one week and 20 or less the other week, it's hard. Not only that one lady I work with was not scheduled AT ALL one week. She went to personnel- who isn't so personable and was able to 12 hours for the week.Only go here as a last resort, it is money. But, don't expect to be able to live off of your wages at Walmart alone. Don't stand up to the power trip managers/CSM's smile and act retarded, and like they are the know all's of everything and you can probably keep your job.

I am wondering if anyone else has advice or suggestions about their experience with the Walmart scheduling policies. I just completed orientation and spent my first day in their deli department yesterday.

I was scheduled 2-11pm. I am a little (okay ALOT) angry that on my first actual day, I was left with one other employee to close up the deli and ended up working an hour and a half over my scheduled time, just so we could get closed up and get the area ready for the morning shift people. Will this type of thing be a regular occurrence? I need the job, but that is completely ridiculous.

I expect some issues from time to time, but if this is the norm, I am not sure I want to go back. Anyone have experience with this type of issue there? Taking this job seemed like a godsend at the time, but now I am wondering if I made a wrong decision.

I have been at Walmart since January of this year. Since I started I have not liked it.

Management at mine sucks. And all that favoritism!!! I went in wanting to be a CSS. I took the test and passed it. But apparently there was a glitch and I wasn't taken to the second part of the test in order to get an interview. I told a member of management and they said I couldn't retake it even though it was the computer's glitch. As far as CSS's go there is only a few I like.

Two of them got the position just because of favoritism. One of them is a CSS pet.

Always hanging out with the CSS's off the clock, I guess we know why she got the position. The second person who got it was a and after 3 months went into desk and a month after she was in that position got the CSS spot. I have been told by a CSS that you have to be in a position 6 months before you can move to another postion. And the two new CSS's give everyone their breaks late, their lunches late and go homes late.

The other day my break was almost an hour late!! I am frustrated by the management at my store and I am about ready to quit because of this drama with the CSS's and the fact that even though I am qualified to be a CSS it hasn't happened. I worked there for over 3 when I realized how miserable the people who tell you what to do were! It is ridiculous. WALMART WORK IS NOT HARD, I REPEAT NOT HARD.

Just pointless!! I was once told to make someone redo the makeup tags. THE STORE WAS NOT EVEN OPEN YET! Why waste time paying someone to fix something that hasn't even been messed up? Let them go home a few minutes early. We got our store finished a week before grand opening and they still forced people to come in and go through overstock boxes intentionally. Seriously, the people getting paid salary can stay at home all month with their sick spouse or sick kid, but the hourly people are called into the office with a warning after they have made their limit! We once had a man have a stroke in the breakroom, we called an ambulance and all my store manager was worried about was making sure he got clocked out!

This man couldn't come back to work for months and when he was ready, they told him he no longer has a job! Its also unfair to be scheduled to work 3-12 one day and the next day 6-3! 6 hours apart?

We had a girl once scheduled to work 10 PM - 7 AMand then that same day come back at 2:30PM and work til 11:30! So, everyone called me crazy when I said that I loved my job, well.I was promoted to Department Manager yesterday after having been with Walmart for not quite eight months. Call me foolish, but with all of these people out of work, why complain about a job period? It is a job, and either way.management cares if you care. You just have to show them that you are willing to bust your butt, and you actually care about your job and customers.

I still love my job, and I will continue to love to it. Heck, I had two managers that brought me in the ad office to get me to apply for an job, and I had only been with the company five months; not to mention the fact that they also faxed my resume' to our market manager and market personnel manager.

Like I said, they care if you care and if you are an exceptional worker. I am starting to think everyone on here is just lazy. I have worked for Walmart for two years, and I love it.

If you miss one day you will not get fired if you miss all the time yeah they have a right to you, because you are not doing your job and are causing other people to have to fill in for you. I have a great set of Managers, and Coworkers that I consider my friends. Then a position for a CSM opened and I grabbed at that. I'm so glad I took that job.

I believe being a CSM prepared me for many things to come. Like usual I was always looking for the next best or fun thing I could do at walmart. I then swapped CSMing for pets, then garden. This was a great department. Working in the summer outside in the sun, no stress, easy, good people to work with. My next job came as a total shocker.

I found out that walmart will train employes for free to become a pharmacist technician and I was all over that. I started by helping in the pharmacy, becoming familiar with the works.

I was barley 19 years old. By the time I was 25 I was already making three times as much money as when I first started in electronics. My point is that options are open at walmart for those who pursue them. Sure low pay at first that never seems to get better, long hours, weird hours, but if you show them your serious and dependable you can do good with this company. One last thing I would like to share, I was diagnosed with stage four hodgkins lymphoma cancer at 26, but with my good benefits and support from my store I sailed through four years of chemo, radiation, bone marrow transplants, etc.Now a few years later I still love my job and have nothing but good things to say about what walmart can do for you. You just have to go look for it.

Respect your managers.Yeah like the Army huh my father worked in the Army for 30 years and that is a load of crap. At the store I worked at is nothing like that for most of the year they have a freeze out our store, my department manager was asked to interview someone since we desperately needed associates she finished the interview and right when she went to turn it it they told her hiring freeze we are not taking anyone and then made her go inform him. Out in their Tire Lube Express someone called OSHA on the shop due to a tire lift that the safety bar that locks the lift in place was broken for four years! Mind you the manager in the shop kept trying to get it fixed since the only way to set it was to climb under the vehicle while it was in the air. One of the techs their was blamed for that situation now they deny him any position out of his department and treat him like crap for calling and when he tries to open door it they tell him it is just his imagination. Another in the shop takes hour breaks and then sits in the bathroom for 20 minutes at a time 4 times a day and calls out all the time after 11 months!!!! Of doing this they finally canned him despite multiple complaints and the only reason they did was because someone called on them and threatened lawsuit after they would coach others for doing that but not him.

Now they are cutting associates down to 13 or sometimes less hours a week and when everyone complains they tell them to deal with it other people have it worse, They cut the store down so bad that now most of the time I see the store manager get rides to work so no one slashes that POS's tires management do not care here they treat everyone like crap. Why is Walmart management more concerned about 60 cases per hour than they are about about stocking correctly and zoning the shelves properly? If things were stocked properly wouldn't it take less time to zone? And why is the ordering system so screwed up to cause so much freakin overstock?

And why is it there can be an item of overstock an then the same item comes out as a pick? Then you got even more overstock of the same item. I'm also curious how other walmarts work in the stocking area, wouldn't it be better to have certain few stock all the all night an then certain few stock all the GM rather than all the stockers having their own aisle or two then doing the GM side after that (if there's time to do any of it). And why can't the freakin routine be the same every single night instead of different every night? If the routine was exactly the same wouldn't that cause you to be able to stock faster? If the routine was exactly the same wouldn't that cause you to be able to stock faster?Most walmarts nowadays are no different since they are to cheap to hire more stockers they prefer to barely hire anyone to run the store. In my location they cut everyone down to 30 hours or less 30 hours being the 4 to 6 cashiers that they only have to run the registers up front and everyone else in the departments are screwed half the time in the department they used to have the same person stock it now they tend to bounce people in and out causing freight to be stocked whereever each person jams it into some random space.

This store they can't even keep up with price tags you would go to the home of a product and it tells you 230 dollars then go to their isle feature and it would say 159 dollars took them four weeks to change the price differences between the two. Her story is worse than mine so I will start there. He has worked for them since a new store opening for about six years as a dpt manager. He is an older employee. Everything was fine up until recently.

One day they came up to him and told him, either he has to step down from his position or he has to look forward to another job. The reason they gave him was because they were looking to restructure and hire all new dpt managers. Why did they want new dpt managers because the current ones were getting paid to much. So he said ok and took an overnight position in stocking shelves. This was ok for a little while until one day corporate goes and says they expect each stoc person to cut open, place items on shelf and crush the boxes in less then a minute.

What is sad is they would actually stand there with a stop watch and time them. Now he works in lawn in garden. He wants to leave but at his age its hard for him to find something else.I use to be an overnight support manager, and we had to keep track of the time people spent in each department. It made no sence how they came up with the times. I mean really, 45 mins for a pallet and a half of chemicles? So I understand where you're comming from. And the guy that worked that department worked his butt off there.

Never once did I ever have time to go and use a stop watch on someone. I've never even heard of that! Its a bunch of b.s. And I'm sorry that he had to go thru it. But I agree 1000% that walmart is the worst company to work for!!!

If you need money, go to walmart. If you want to be treated fairly or respected, stay away. The most important thing my department stressed, was the open door policy. Meaning if you have a problem go to your manager. If you don't trust him to solve it, or he fails to solve it, go higher.

In theory you can go to the president of the company with your problem, with absolutely no repercussions on yourself. We had someone write an email to our because the store managers were breaking rules and making the shop hard to work in. The next day our manager took us all to the side one at a time, asking us about the letter, telling us if we have any complaints to bring it up with the store manager so he can just us on the spot. Yeah, nice open door policy. If you have a complaint, the door is open for you to leave.

Management at mine sucks. And all that favoritism!!! I went in wanting to be a CSS.

I took the test and passed it. But apparently there was a glitch and I wasn't taken to the second part of the test in order to get an interview. I told a member of management and they said I couldn't retake it even though it was the computer's glitch. As far as CSS's go there is only a few I like.

Two of them got the position just because of favoritism. One of them is a CSS pet. Always hanging out with the CSS's off the clock, I guess we know why she got the position. The second person who got it was a and after 3 months went into desk and a month after she was in that position got the CSS spot. I have been told by a CSS that you have to be in a position 6 months before you can move to another postion. And the two new CSS's give everyone their breaks late, their lunches late and go homes late. The other day my break was almost an hour late!!

I am frustrated by the management at my store and I am about ready to quit because of this drama with the CSS's and the fact that even though I am qualified to be a CSS it hasn't happened.I agree COMPLETELY! This is exactly how it is at my store. And I'd also like to know how a CSS can stand around day dreaming instead of doing their job and how she gets so much vacation time. I was not getting involved in their personal lives and all I wanted was for everyone to be treated fairly and to do my job. Management started having it out for me because of them complaing (lieing) and one early morning as one CSM was sitting in Subway I had a question and walked in there to get her opinion and just as I asked her the 'Head CSM' walked in for his shift and since a light was blinking he saw that as us not doing our jobs.

Fine, take away my title. I didn't care at that point and I quit. And one of those CSM's are still working at Walmart. Good for her!I do not think all Walmarts are jacked up. They do under-pay and they don't respect that sometimes life happens to even the best of employees, but it's 100% the management that makes or breaks a store. Well, there was a LOT written before the last post I wrote that decided not to post. BREAKDOWN: I worked at 3 stores total. Going from, to, to over-night cashier, to CSM and the first 2 stores I worked for were great and the last was pretty bad.

I was a CSM at the last while working with a romantic duo who was threatened by the fact that I knew their secret since the male CSM was married and they played favorites with some cashiers they considered friends and I was very much a fair manager. So, they didn't like me.

They started creating problems for me by lieing to upper management who would automatically believe them since they were coming to them in a pair. Management really should have pulled me into their office to tell me what was being said and to ask me why but that was never done. That was many years ago. I am also a Walmart employee. But whether or not I like my job is not relevant to what I have to say.

I think people in this forum need to stop and think before they write a post. Why are you guys attacking each other? Do you really care that much if someone hates their job? Does the person who likes their job deserve to be called an idiot?

Obviously, we all know what the economy is like right now, so most people don't really have the choice to just quit if they don't like a job. On the other hand, if someone does like the job, why not just let them be? You're all on here talking about how the CSMs and managers just beat you down and make you feel like crap, but then you come on here and do the same thing to other people? The point of this website is to give potential employees our opinions, not to be jackasses to each other.
