With 2017 I'm finding that the Twilight Render v2.0 Hobby version similar in output quality and faster than Visualizer was in previous versions of Sketchup. Unfortunately, the interface does require a bit more setup and manual starting, although choosing default options produces good results.

I don't like that the window is always on top of Sketchup and you can't change that. The fact that settings are not persistent across sessions is also annoying. You have to set the render resolution each time (unless 800x600 is somehow good enough for you). Overall Twilight is a suitable replacement with good quality and excellent speed, but it lacks the amazing simplicity that Visualizer had for my workflow.
I still wish Visualizer could be updated to work with 2017 and future versions of Sketchup and I would happily pay for it or another renderer that matched the simplicity of it. to post reviews. To all, I purchased VIZUALISER back in 2014, it's a shame it doesn't work with SUPro-2017. When I installed SUPro-2017, I didn't realise it didn't work with SU17 & just went through the process of reinstalling my extensions. I tried installing Visualizer ver.1.3 but it died somewhere in the install process. I was wondering, would this caused any problems with SU on an attempted install & have any items been installed somewhere that I should track down & delete? Over & out, Clayton.
to post reviews. Good evening, firstly thanks for the fantastic plugin, really, it's great. I have only an issue, i can't find any checkboxes about which i can read in many of the blogs posts, like 'allow light through section planes' or, much more needed, personally, 'Enhanced materials' (the three arrows icon), or the 'interior light control'.cant find any setting part in the extension menu or the visualizer window. Is there anything to do with the license? Should i activate it someway? I can see written '7 days remaining' on top of my visualizer viewport, what should i do?
Thank you very much. to post reviews.
Been using Visualizer for over a year now, works great and produces wonderful renders, but recently it has been acting up. When i'm rendering larger images like for example ones that are 3300 x 2200 in size do take longer to render, but the problem now is that it would keep saying it's 'calculating' and it would go on like that for days. At times in those instances it would tell me that it has finished rendering (with a checkmark) when in fact it hasn't because all the materials in the render will still have the speckles and noise despite turning them off. I did delete the software and re-download it, but it still does the same thing. I am out of options, but does anyone here know why it's doing that by any chance?.

to post reviews. Hi Chelsea, The thing is Visualizer never stops rendering. Each pass is a refinement of the render. The estimates for 'doneness' are just estimates that measure how different the latest pass is from the previous. I assume you are using the enhanced mode?
I've noticed that if you have enhanced mode on with de-speckling and let the render continue for a very long time the speckles will actually come back. You may want to try out my Visualizer addon extension which saves images for all camera scenes after a specified render time. Here: Hope this helps. to post reviews. It is not often i post reviews regarding an extension, but this one fully deserves it. This is a really simple tool which is easy to use an produces really professional loooking images.
I am not interested in image rendering, but I am interested in good results quickly and this is what this gives you. Almost had a heart attack when I couldn't get it to work with 2016, but there are plenty of workarounds widely avialable on the internet. Highly recommend, especially for designers. to post reviews.
Actually it's not easy! I am running Windows 10 (just installed May 2016) and copied the 2015 SketchUp Plugins folder from my previous Windows 7 drive (which only had Vizualizer in it!) and pasted the entire folder into the primary 2016 Sketchup folder located in C: Program Files / SketchUp / SketchUp 2016. I then fire up SketchUp 2016, select Windows, Extensions and there is NO option checkbox to select and enable Visualizer. And yes, I had already checked the Extension Policy option and by default it was already set to Unrestricted. I also notice that the ImaginationVisualizer.rb is just an.rb file not a.rbz.
The only place I am seeing.rb files is in the Tools folder. I also know for many people the original PlugIns folder was located outside of SketchUp in the Program Data folder or just inside the Program Files folder.
In Windows 10 there is no Program Data folder, and no All Users folder, only just a single C: Users folder and there is no additional SketchUp folder located in there. I also have to assume if you are simply doing a copy/paste while still having SketchUp 2015 installed it would likely only work because of it being entered in the windows registry since Visualizer is run with an installer. I could be wrong but that would make sense.
I'll keep trying and if I can get it to work I'll post it here. After 2 hours with this though. I'm not holding my breath. to post reviews. Hi Jeff, The programdata folder is hidden by default in windows10. A google search shows how to reveal it.
I dont have windows10 yet. Hope this helps. Open File Explorer. Go to the C drive. Click on view. Check on the box Hidden items.
If you are still unable to see the programdata folder then click on Options next to hidden items. Go to view tab. Under hidden files and folder, select show hidden files, folders and drives. Click on Apply and OK button. Now, again go to C diver the program data folder shall be available. to post reviews.

Ok, I did that. And as far as I know, the files need to be dropped in the following Local Disk (C:) Users / (your pc name) / AppData / Roaming / SketchUp / SketchUp 2016 / SketchUp / Plugins. Once in that folder (PlugIns) you will see other default plugins such as suadvancedcameratools, sudynamicomponents, etc. Should it be in the ProgramData folder instead? (C: / ProgramData /SketchUp / SketchUp 2016 / SketchUp / Plugins (and once there.there is nothing there, just SketchUp but no Plugins folder nor anything else, it just dead ends hence why I assume it belongs in the AppData string as there are other similar things found, I assume this is one or the other.but not both. Using the AppData string method I dropped in the ImaginationVisualizer photo in there and the ImaginationVisualizer.rb file is 'loose' along with all the other 5 or 6.rb files.
When I restart SketchUp I get some error warnings. (and also did after having tried the ProgramData method too) I read that someone else said it also needs an IVlocalization file too? This is not something I found in the original 2015 Plugins folder so if anyone has it I'd greatly appreciate having it emailed or tell me where to look and also where all these actually need to be. to post reviews. HOW ABOUT AN ACCURATE CHECKLIST. #1 - Do you have Windows or Apple and what Operating System?
Some files / folders will be slightly different but the process is similar. #2 - Is this for a brand new installation, newly formatted PC, or do you already have SketchUp 2015 installed? Any previous versions? #3 - Regardless of those, you will first need to install SketchUp 2015 and then install Visualizer via it's Installer. This is the only way to get Visualizer working in Sketchup 2016 regardless of operating system and whether it's a new build / new install, etc.
#4 - Once both SketchUp Make 2015 (or Pro) has been installed, as well SketchUp Make (or Pro) 2016 has been installed, Install Visualizer. It will specifically look for SketchUp 2014 or 2015 only because it is now unsupported from the developers.
Therefore it will NOT install into 2016 and must be done manually and for whatever reason it will only work if it has been installed into SketchUp 2015 first. This likely has do to with entries into the Windows Registry from the installer. Therefore a PC to PC or drive to drive copy transfer of the files will not work even if placed in the proper locations. The key is that the original installer must be used, then files are copied and transferred. #5 - Open SketchUp 2015 and confirm Visualizer is installed. #6 - Open your My Computer / C Drive. This is now called 'This PC' in Windows 10.
#7 - Open the Local Disc C: Drive and look for the View menu or View Tab at the top. (or right-click and select Properties / Options, etc) #8 - In Windows 10 from the View tab select the Hidden Items checkbox. Or you can also use the Options dropdown and under it's own View tab make sure the 'Show hidden files, folders, and drives' is selected. In Windows 7 this is typically done by right clicking on the drive icon, selecting preferences or options, and essentially following the same method to achieve the same result.
This can also be done through the Control Panel via Folder Options. Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options. Then Click the View tab under Advanced settings, then click Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then click OK. Once done, this allows you to see two things which were previously hidden. These are the ProgramData folder located directly under your normal Program Files folders and also allows you to access your AppData folder located as C: Users / (your name or PC name) / AppData. #9 - In this case however, we only need to access the following: C: ProgramData / SketchUp / SketchUp2015 / SketchUp / Plugins.
Make a COPY of this Plugins folder. Now back out one folder, enter the SketchUp 2016 folder then it's own SketchUp folder. Now paste the Plugins copy folder into this Sketchup folder.
(no Plugins folder likely exists there if you just installed SkU2016) #10 - Now start SketchUp 2016. You should see an Extensions option at the top text menu.
Click on it and Visualizer / Start Visualizer should appear and if so, it is properly installed. Once started, you should also see the separate Tool window itself which can then be dragged and placed on the SketchUp tool bar next to the other Tools, Plugins. Etc so that you don't always have to start it from the Extensions drop down. Therefore you can just click on the 'V' icon in the future as was also done in SketchUp 2015.
This is exactly how every help tutorial should be written. It will save you, me, and thousands of others a lot of time, endless head-scratching, endless back and forth forum posts, etc etc.
DO NOT assume what operating system someone has. DO NOT assume they have installed or pre installed the same things as you. Maybe they've built a new PC as I did and are attempting to use similar files and folders from previous installations. Nothing is ever cut and dry. Whether you are a forum moderator or just a Joe Blow who.tries. to help people, you need to take a little extra effort as I have to make a clear and concise checklist that covers most all of the bases in a very logical format. This simple modification literally took me well over 6 hours to figure out while combing through at least 5 different forums.
None of them were clear. None were helpful. With the 10 steps above, it weeds out the BS, and can be done in 5 minutes. All without me ever having to answer a single question again from anyone.
Let's all chip in to make our lives and the lives of others a little more simple. to post reviews. Hi Tracy H, Hard to give advice without seeing your image and knowing more about your computer.
Visualizer works better with a modern multi-core computer. In general best results are in an exterior day light environment. The light sources are a sun and a procedural sky. The wait times can be longer with small openings to the sky. The wait times are a progressive estimate of how much each pass is refining the image. If you are doing interiors add skylight openings or consider hiding the ceilings. As a shameless plug, consider trying out my VisualizerSceneExporter extension which lets you set the render times for saving images.

Every time you go to actually use the render it will crash. Every time I use it it crashes, and i can never seem to finish rendering an image before it crashes because the render time is anywhere between 40 mins to 3 hours. I have never been more disappointed with a program in my life. I have sent in about 80 reports cause every time it does crash it gives me the option. Save yourself the frustration and headache, find something else. If anyone has any ideas of other programs besides this one or maxwell render( it does the same thing) please let me know.
to post reviews. Hi Christian R, It is possible to use Visualizer with Sketchup2016 however there is no automatic way to install Visualizer. Read the comments below for more details or take a look at this link in the Sketchup forum. First acquire Sketchup2015 and then install Visualizer. Next copy the Visualizer extension files into your Sketchup2016 plugins folder.
Once the files are in the correct place make sure to enable Visualizer in the extensions preferences dialog in Sketchup2016. Its actually quite easy. to post reviews.
