I have searched the Internet and gotten conflicting information, which is only complicated by the existence of the original HDLoader and the knockoff HDAdvance products. This is made more complicated still by the fact that there are now HDAdvance 2.0 and HDAdvance 3.0.I already know that original HDLoader does not circumvent the PS2's built-in region checking. So you cannot pop your import game into your PS2's drive from HDLoader and expect it to work unless you do the slide trick. I'm clumsy and uncoordinated enough that doing the slide trick is pretty much out of the question for me. I'm also not going to modchip my PS2, it's just not worth it anymore when HDLoader can run any game which finds its way onto the HDD. With original HDLoader you need to use HDLdump or WinHIIP to put the import game on the HDD, once it's there HDLoader will happily boot and run the game.So, the question is, and I have not gotten anything resembling a definitive answer on this, can you install import games directly with HDAdvance? Since there are now 3 versions of HDAdvance (original 1.0, which is an exact hacked knockoff of HDLoader and has the same limitations, and the patched 2.0 and 3.0), I would need to know which version can install the import games directly.Obviously if worst comes to worst I can simply drag out the HDD from the PS2 and attach it to my PC and WinHIIP the import games onto the HDD.
This is only moderately a pain in the ass, though if I buy a cheap USB2.0 enclosure to stick the drive in it becomes considerably easier.Any advice would be appreciated.P.S. I guess since Sony's legendary PS2 warranty is just 3 months I might as well just break the damn warranty seal. I have lots of success with using WiNHIIP. I had a firewire enclosure, so it was easy for me. I just popped the drive in and copied my games over. Enclosures can be found cheap and not only will it help you with imports and DVD 9's, but its a lot faster and saves wear and tear on your PS2. Seeing as to how you probably want to dump your whole collection to it, this would help.Also, Shudder's recommendation about the memory card trick for HDL is a great idea. The new version has much higher compatibility.

I thought it would work though since I've loaded HDAdvance once before off the HDD, but someone said they tried what you're talking about and didn't have luck. Ok, well I did try loading HDLoader from the HD after booting with HDAdvance, and it doesn't work. It just goes to a black screen.

Correct?The order of operations instead of booting off your HD Advance disc is the ps2 attempts to boot your ps1 disc. Because of an memory overflow bug that happens when checking save files involving the ps1 disc it instead ends up running whatever unsigned code you want, in this case HD Advance. This also happens to be even faster than booting off the original HD Advance dvd, because it just quickly checks the ps1 disc and does the rest off the memory card, instead of the slower dvd. To get there you have to launch an ftp server using HD Loader and then you can transfer the necessary 'expoit' files to the memory card.So you end up getting an even faster boot time, the ability to easily update HD Advance to the latest and greatest version, plus you can use just about any ps1 disc while safely storing your HD Advance disc in the back up pile for emergency use. It was a pain in the arse to get working for me, but once you do it's great, especially with all the work that has been done with HD Advance/Loader.This site helped me out a lot when I was first doing it.My vote for best/worst game after using the HD Loader has got to be the Champion's of Norrath series. It's a pain to get them working being that the first one is DVD9, but man oh man does it fly once you get it up and running.

I sense some confusion here.IF you have Swap Magic, you can download a DVD of the memory card exploit-alternatively, you can DL the files and build your own exploit. Boot it with the SM DVD and push X. It will install the exploit onto your PS2 memory card.
You will need anywhere from about 2-5MB depending on what applications you choose to install with the exploit.If you have a sufficiently large titles.db file, you can use pretty much any PS1 disc as a trigger to load the mem card exploit. Once it boots, you will see a menu with up to 4 options.The most common use of the mem card exploit is to load CD-based PS2 games. Because a HUGE number of people simply cannot boot the SM CD.
Choose cogswaploader from the menu, put in an ORIGINAL PS1 game with a high TOC (DMC, Tekken Tag Tournament) and wait for the icon to change. Then put in the cd-based game a friend let you copy, or whatever. Push X and have fun!
NOTE: you can also swap DVDs with this method, and provided you have a high TOC original PS2 DVD, you can boot ANY game. The tutorial at PS2HD.com says HDLoader doesn't like being the boot file for the exploit, thats why you're supposed to use keylauncher. I'm still working on installing the exploit, apparently I put the execftps iso together wrong or something.Facelees, i think i found the easiest way to make the exploit and add any options you want.
