I broke down and bought a new sound card from a different manufacturer but had to jump through some hoops to get it to work, so I think the process might have worked with the Creative card.Reinstall Windows 7 as a clean copy - NOT an upgrade (go ahead and have the card plugged in).

Grab the XP drivers from Creative, use that and start the setup.exe under Windows XP SP2w/ admin rights compatibility mode (if you don't know how to do this: right click on the exe, select properties and there is a 'compatibility' tab to choose with these options). Make sure you select the setup.exe in the 'drivers' folder under this pack (justin case - the rest of the software is mostly unnecessary in my experience and the more variables we can eliminate the better!). And as a note, this was literally the second thing I installed after I reinstalled windows - first being my GPU drivers.
